Virtual Astronomy Live - 30th Anniversary of the Hubble Space Telescope
At the start of COVID, the Intrepid Air & Space Museum transitioned their Astronomy Live programming from in-person to online and I was fortunate enough to be asked to join as moderator! The inaugural Virtual Astronomy Live program celebrated the 30th anniversary of the launch of the Hubble Space Telescope. Joined by Charles F. Bolden, Jr., Mike Massimino, and Frank Summers, we geeked out over all thing Hubble and discussed the parallels between isolation in space and the conditions many are experiencing during the current pandemic.
This was an especially exciting opportunity for me as I attended the original launch of Hubble from Cape Canaveral in April 1990 as well as the launch one of Mike Massimino’s servicing missions in 2009. Bonus, Frank Summers created one of my all-time favorite visualizations with Hubble data of colliding galaxies.
